2012 Cedar Lake Speedway Rules & Procedures

 

Cedar Lake Speedway Race Procedures:

1. Cut off time is 45 minutes prior to start time unless there is a line or traffic delay.  Any car arriving late will start in the tail of the first available heat.
2. The only way a car will get a heat position number is when the car goes through the pit gate.  It is your responsibility to remember your number.  Races will be lined up by the draw except during special events
3. No driver changes after heats.  Driver may only qualify one car.
4. Cars must be lined up ready to race at the track entrance 5 minutes prior to their race in starting order.  It is the drivers’ responsibility to let an official know if you will be driving two or more cars or will be late.  If you are late for your race you will start in the tail of that race.  If a lap has been completed you will not be allowed to enter that race.  If you miss your heat you will start in the tail of the B feature.  If you make cutoff but are unable to race a heat or B Feature you may start at the tail of the A feature.
5. Before the start of the heat race, cars must be lined up in order prior to the flag stand ready to race.  Before the start of B and A Features, all cars will stop on front stretch in order.  NO HOT LAPS!  You will be put to the back of your race if you pass the official on the front stretch prior to the B and A Features.
6. In the event of a no show cars will slide forward or criss-cross at official’s discretion.
7. All races will have a time limit.  On the original start the field will be given 1 minute per lap to complete the race once the green flag is displayed.  In the event of multiple or lengthy yellow flags the white flag will be displayed after the time limit has expired.  Please keep in mind that we do not wish to eliminate race length but present a more professional show due to car count and the 11:30 p.m. curfew.  The officials will do everything they can to finish each race within the time limit.
8. On all starts there will be no free laps.  For example: pulling to the top of the track or delaying the start in any way.  You will be put to the tail of the field.  No brake checks will be tolerated on starts.
9. Features will be lined up using the 10-12 redraw method except during special events.
10. All drivers must follow all race officials and lap recorders instructions.  Failure to follow instructions or line up in a professional manner during yellows or prior to starts will result in the following penalties.  First time is a warning, second warning you will be sent to the pits.
11. Green flag.  A cone will be placed in Turn 4.  On the original DOUBLE file start the front row will approach the cone at a slow/moderate pace and fire at the cone.  The Green flag and light will then be displayed.  At that time you will be allowed to pass prior to the cone.  If you are in the front row and fire prior to the cone the race will be stopped and that car will be put 1 row back.  One or both of the front row cars may be penalized.  If you jump the start and are not in the front row you will be penalized two (2) positions per car passed.  Jumping a start is considered getting out of line or passing a car prior to the Green flag.  On SINGLE file restarts the leader will approach the cone at a slow/moderate pace and fire at the cone.  You CANNOT pass a car before you pass the cone.  If you jump this start you will be penalized two (2) positions per car passed.  Races will not be stopped once the Green flag was been displayed other than for an accident or on track incident.  Penalties will be assessed if a yellow is displayed prior to race end or at the pay window if race stays green.
12. Yellow flag. The Yellow flag will be displayed only if an incident has occurred on the track or a car has stopped on the race surface.  The car or cars determined to have caused the yellow to be displayed will be placed at the tail of field.  Any car that spins or stops to avoid the accident will receive their spot back.  If you stop your car in the infield and are not in a dangerous spot we will not stop the race.  If you are spun into the infield by another car and cannot reenter race safely the yellow will be displayed and the car that spun your car out will go to the tail.  If you are the leader of the race and are spun or get collected in an accident, you will get your spot back.  You will not get your spot back if you cause the accident.  If you cause two Yellow flags in any event you will be sent to the pits and scored in that position.  Mutual respect and courtesy should limit Yellow flags.
13. If you spin by yourself and determined to be out of contention in any heat and make no attempt to reenter race under Green safely you will be sent to the pits and scored in that position.
14. Lapped cars will go to tail on a yellow flag and receive their lap back.
15. In the features only. If you get a flat tire you can stop the race.  You will receive Two (2) laps to change the tire in the Hot Pits near the scale.  If you go in the pits under green we will not throw the yellow flag or allow you back on the track.  If for any reason you enter the pits during the race other than to change a tire you will be scored in that position and will not be allowed to reenter race.  If a CLS official sends you to the pits for repairs, two laps will be given to make those repairs.  You may reenter the race at the tail.
16. If the flagman stops the race for any car due to safety reasons that car will be sent to the tail.  Unsafe cars must be fixed quickly or you will be disqualified.
17. All drivers are responsible to know where the scale is and know when to use it.  (Top 3 in heats and Top 5 in features.)  Any car that finishes in a scalable position and avoids or passes scale road will be disqualified.  After the Features the top 5 must present their car in tech area immediately after scaling their car.  Failure to present car for inspection will result in disqualification. 
18. Cedar Lake Speedway reserves the right to inspect any car at any time.  If a car is found to be illegal prior to a race they must correct infraction prior to racing next event.  If a car is found to be illegal after a race the driver will be disqualified and will be awarded zero (0) points and zero (0) purse.
19. Illegal parts will be confiscated and become the property of Cedar Lake Speedway.  Cedar Lake Speedway reserves the right to impose a fine for the infraction which must be paid prior to racing next event at Cedar Lake Speedway.  
20. Anyone who does not pack the track when called may be penalized.
21. Raceceivers are mandatory for the Late Model, Modified, Pro Stock & Midwest Modified divisions.  It is the driver’s responsibility to purchase or rent a Raceceiver.
22. No drivers out of their car at any time while on track.
23. Videotapes at CLS are not official.
24. All pit personnel must stay clear of the track entrance and remain in the pits.  This also includes accidents.  No one will be allowed in the center of the track.
25. Consumption of alcoholic beverages in the pit area, or being under the influence of alcohol in the pit area is prohibited until the entire program has been completed.  Violation of this rule will result in violator being banned from CLS for remainder of year. Zero Tolerance.
26. The use of, being under the influence of, or possession of illegal drugs is prohibited.  Violation of this rule will result in violator being banned from CLS for remainder of year. Zero Tolerance.
27. Everyone will be treated with respect.  Any participant who threatens another with bodily harm in any way will be banned from CLS for remainder of year. 
28. The use of any ATV, motorcycle, golf cart or any other motorized vehicle in pits or grounds of CLS is prohibited.
29. Weights and mufflers must be secured properly to car.  Any car that loses any weight or muffler will be disqualified for that event.
30. All decisions of the CLS officials are final.  Cedar Lake Speedway reserves the right to refuse entry of any car or person at any time.  Cedar Lake Speedway reserves the right to impose a monetary fine and/or suspension where necessary for violation of any of these procedures.

Racecar Rules:

The Cedar Lake Speedway welcomes all legal area cars to compete weekly along with the following additions.  The optional rules listed below are strictly optional and are not requirements to race at Cedar Lake Speedway.  In the spirit of competitive equality Cedar Lake Speedway may and will reassess the rules and make changes as needed.   

 

LATE MODELS 
Required:
 Goodyear G45 & G50, Hoosier WRS2-55 and American Racer MD56 Block Pattern Spec tires will be allowed.  Grooving and siping will be allowed on all brands.  Note: Hoosier WRS-55 may be used on the right rear only.

Optional: Late Models may also use the following engine configurations:

(Steel Head) 406-410 cid engine.  Engine must use steel block and steel head.  Heads may use a maximum of 235cc  runners.  Flat tappet cam only with max lift of .600.  1.5 ratio rockers only.  Roller rockers are allowed.   Wet sump oil system only with external oil filter allowed.  Maximum intake height of 7.25”.  This car must weigh 2300 lbs with driver after the race.

(Open Engine) Maximum engine set back is 6" measured from center of ball joint to first spark plug hole.  Cars using this engine must add 60 lbs in front of engine plate.  This car must weigh 2450 lbs with driver after the race.

(Crate Engine) This car must weigh 2250 lbs with driver after race.   

 

MODIFIEDS 
Required:
The following tires may be used on all four corners
Goodyear G65 & G50 (grooving & siping allowed)

Hoosier 35 (siping & grinding only allowed)
American Racer G60 or KK704 (grooving & siping allowed)

Optional:

1. Tubular lower A-Arms with stock configuration are allowed.  Screw in style ball joint is required.
2. Rear body panel is optional.
3. Aluminum J-Bar mounts allowed.
4. Beadlock allowed on right front wheel
5. Quick change rear ends are allowed. Steel tubes only, 10" ring gear only allowed, magnesium or titanium components are not allowed, pinion & carrier bearings must be tapered, wide 5 bolt pattern is not allowed.
6. USRA aluminum spec headed engine must weigh 2500 lbs with 50 lbs in front of engine plate after race.  Cars with this engine may run a 7" spoiler and are required to run American Racer G60 or KK704 and 8,000 rpm chip.
7. Regional spec engines must weigh 2450 after race.  Maximum 5" spoiler.
8. 406 engines are allowed with non-roller flat top rocker arms.  No roller cams.  Must weigh 2450 after race.  Maximum 5" spoiler.
9. Non-Spec headed engines are allowed with the following provisions.  Approved Heads: Chrysler and Ford cast heads.  In addition W-2 & SVO but cannot be ported.  Chevrolet straight plug heads with the following castings numbers: 040, 041, 041x, 186, 187, 291, 461, 461x, 462 & 492.  These heads may be ported.  Angle plug or turbo heads are not allowed.   Roller rockers are allowed.  Roller cams or raised intake runners are prohibited.  Non-Spec cars must weigh 2450 lbs with driver after the race.  Maximum 5" spoiler.
   
   
   

 PRO STOCKS

Required:

The following tires may be used on all four corners.

1. Goodyear G65 & G50, or Hoosier 35 (Grooving and siping are allowed)

Optional:

1. Swiveling spring cups are allowed.
2. Rear body panel is optional.
3. 5" spoiler allowed measured from top of interior deck.
4. Non-shaft roller rockers are allowed.  No stud girdles.
5. GM 602 & 604 Crate engines are allowed.  Cars using the GM crate engine may use a Holley 750 or smaller carburetor.  No alterations to the engine inside the bolts allowed.  Rebuilds or repairs must be performed by CLS approved rebuilder. 

 

 MIDWEST MODIFIEDS

Required:

The following tires may be used on all four corners.

1. Goodyear G65 & G50 or Hoosier 35 (Grooving & siping are allowed)
2. Compression Rule- 170 PSI Compression Maximum.  Compression will be checked with absolutely NO tolerance over the 170 PSI limit.

Optional:

1. Bert, Brinn or Falcon transmissions are allowed.  Ball spline couplers or magnesium components are not allowed.
2. Cars using 3 link suspension must weigh 2,550 lbs with driver after race.
3. Cars using 3 link suspension & using a Bert, Brinn or Falcon transmission must weigh 2650 lbs with driver after race.
4. Cars using 4 link suspension must weigh 2600 lbs with driver after race.
5. Cars using 4 link suspension & using a Bert, Brinn or Falcon transmission must weigh 2700 lbs with driver after race.
   
   

HORNETS
All drivers must be 16 years of age or older. All drivers under 18 years of age must have a signed, notarized minor’s release requiring a parent or guardian signature.

 

Car and Body Rules  

 

1) Any 4-cylinder car with a maximum wheelbase of 105.5”. No Pintos, trucks, T-tops or convertibles.

 

2) Cars must be strictly stock with NO modifications. This includes all engine components, drive train, suspension, ignition system or cooling system, exhaust system, and axles (exhaust system does NOT need a catalytic converter, but must have a muffler).

 

3) No chopping, channeling, bracing or shortening of frame allowed (door plates may be used for safety only). No exceptions. Full steel body must remain original and intact at all times. No rub rails or sharp edges on outside of body.

 

4) Passenger tires only.  Wheels and tires must be of like size on all four corners.  Right front wheel MUST be reinforced to prevent its loss during race.  Plating washers and/or oversized nuts must be used.  Tire size:  any size original stock rim is acceptable.  Max tire width is 7.5".  No altering tires in any way. No mud or snow tires (i.e. those designed specifically for mud or snow.  Regular road tires that say "M&S" are acceptable). No bias ply tired allowed. No pipes or protectors welded over tire valve stem.  Hubcaps must be removed.

 

5) No turbos (or superchargers) allowed. One stock carburetor (2 or 4 barrel) or fuel injection only.

 

6) Batteries must be located in original position under hood and securely fastened.

 

7) Hoods and deck lids must have original hinges or pins/chains keeping them in place or they must be removed.

 

8) The stock steel floor pan, firewalls, truck floor, and wheel wells must be retained.

 

9) All cars must have a windshield or, if windshield is removed, car must have bracing over the windshield area covered with mesh. All other glass and trim must be removed including headlights, taillights, and all mirror assemblies. No broken glass allowed in car. Windshield wipers and washers are highly recommended if windshield is intact.

 

10) Must have steering wheel, steering column and pedals in stock position (removable steering wheels are acceptable).

 

11) Car’s interior must be completely gutted except dash and front seat. Dash can be removed also if you wish.

 

12) Stock seat allowed but racing seat recommended.

 

13) All doors must be welded, chained, or bolted shut. If driver’s door comes open, the car will be disqualified.

 

14) Bumpers must be chained or reinforced to frame to keep it from dropping onto the track.

 

15) Mufflers are mandatory.

 

Safety

1) Fire suit required.  Gloves, boots and neck collar are highly recommended. 

 

2) Full face helmet required.

 

3) Racing type seat belt and harness required. Minimum of four-point safety belt system required. Five-point harness recommended.

 

4) Four post roll bar (at least .095 x 1.625 steel tubing) mandatory with steel mounting plates on each end welded and/or bolted to the floor pan. If bolted, minimum of four ½” bolts on each plate. In addition, the “hoop” portion of the roll bar will be reinforced with a minimum of .095 x 1.625 steel tubing. See diagram below for proper installation. Roll bar must be located directly behind the driver and reach as close as possible to the roof and left side of car. Six point roll bar or more strongly recommended.

5) A minimum of one .095 x 1.75 steel bar to protect driver from side impact is mandatory. One end should be welded halfway up roll and continue to in front of driver’s seat. Mounting plate required on end of bar and welded and/or bolted to the floor pan. If bolted, minimum of four ½” bolts on plate. Driver's side door plates are allowed.

 

6) Driver compartment bracing must remain inside driver’s compartment and may not pass through any firewall.

 

7) Extra bracing may be installed as a safety feature only and may not reinforce the body or frame or alter the geometry of the car. Roll bar installation is subject to inspection and will be closely scrutinized.

 

8) Gas tanks located above or in front of rear axle do not have to be relocated. All others must be replaced with a fuel cell (maximum 12 gallons) or boat tank (maximum of 6.6 gallons). Fuel cell/boat tank must be secured and located in the front of the trunk. The fuel line must exit from the top or side of cell/boat tank. A complete firewall must seal the trunk area from the driver’s compartment if the fuel tank is placed in the trunk. No gas line in driver’s compartment.

 

Claim Rule

 

1) Competitors finishing in the top 10 & on the same lap may claim the winner of the feature event only for $1,000 less fuel cell (if used), fire extinguisher, racing seat and harness system. If the driver refuses the claim, he/she loses all prize money, points and will not be allowed to compete at Cedar Lake Speedway for remainder of the year.  

 

Miscellaneous

 

1) Mascots, decorating cars, advertising nicknames, cartoons, etc. are encouraged. Mascots and decorations must be secured to not fall off on track will racing.

 

2) No suggestive language, symbols, or numbers allowed on car. Anything on the car in bad taste will mean disqualification.

 

3) Your car number should be painted on both sides of the car in contrasting colors at least 18 inches high and 5 inches wide. It must be legible and fill the entire door space.
