Karting Rules

Rookie Cage:
 
Ages 5-8
NO TIRE PREPPING IS ALLOWED IN THIS CLASS
A cage is required and must be mounted in four locations to the frame but cannot be welded to the frame.
Tire: Burris ss33-A

Junior 206, then Documents, then 2013 Local Option and Junior 206 Engine class regulations, On the 2013 Briggs and Stratton LO 206 Rule Set,
Rookie Cage engine rules are the "Cadet" .350 Restrictor rules.
Briggs LO206 JR sealed engine only / Gas only 92 octane or less
Must use 17T clutch supplied with spec engine from Briggs
Open rear sprocket gear
Spec header and muffler
Recoil starter must remain on engine
4100 RPM rev limiter
Jr Carb slide

Regional rookie class engines allowed with .425 plate and 17t clutch and 70 tooth rear sprocket and a minimum weight of 250#

All Flat kart classes:
•        ALL lead weights MUST be painted white and properly secured to kart, all bolts MUST be drilled and safety wired / pined. Sheet lead is not recommended but if used must also be painted white and bolted to seat.
•        Chain guards for 2011 must have plate between driver’s seat and engine ( safety issues) And must be properly secured to chain guard.


Jr 1

Ages: 7-12 years
Clone engines: .425 restrictor plate and a weight of 250#
Flathead engines: .425 restrictor plate and a weight of 250#
Animal engines: Black 3 hole restrictor plate and a weight of 290#

Jr 2

Ages: 12-15 years (younger drivers with promoter approval only)
Clone engines: .500 restrictor plate and a weight of 300#
Flathead engines: .500 restrictor plate and a weight of 300#
Animal engines: Gold 3 hole restrictor plate and a weight of 330#

 

Sportsman class (14 years old and up)

370 lb minimum kart and driver
Briggs Animal LO206 sealed gasoline engine with rev limiter (6100 rpm max) as supplied from
Briggs and Stratton ( 2011 IKF rules apply sec 721)
Engine must be ran as supplied by Briggs and Stratton, including recoil starter
Spec header (RLV 5506 or RLV 5507) and muffler required for this class, NO other header will be allowed to compete, header must be wrapped!
Gasoline only, no additives, no ethanol blended fuel 89-92 octane only
Any centrifugal clutch with a maximum of 3 springs and 3 shoes is allowed. No alterations to clutch is allowed, except springs, clutch coolers not allowed * NO single or multi disc clutches allowed
35 chain only! No 219 chain allowed
Steel axle only
No prepping of tires, may be washed with drinkable water only! If you are caught prepping tires you will not be allowed to race (We will durometer tires!)
CHAIN GUARDS:  Must have aluminum, steel or equivalent material chain guard by clutch and then extend chain guard with safe material to protect drivers arm. Must be secured properly to protect driver from broken chain.

2013 Stock Mediums **Clones Allowed**

Flathead engines - 245 lbs
AKRA Pro Clone - 270 lbs

Header must be wrapped!

 

2013 Animal Pro Heavy Rules-

Weight: 370# minimum

Engines:
Briggs and Stratton Animal as per IKF/WKA stock class rules for methanol
OR
Spec IKF Flat Head Blue Wazoom with a .820 bore carb/.255 lift cam -
ALL headers must be wrapped per IKF rules ( safety issue)
This engine is to be run as originally manufactured in Council Bluffs, Iowa (no modifications of any kind)


Jr. Wing (Age 7-12)

300 lb. weight rule
( Can run 2009 Sec. 718 IKF Briggs Gas Animal rules except: Animal must have compression relief cam, spec pipe and recoil must remain on engine! or you can run IKF, WKA or KART Stock Methanol Engine, or Clone engine rules)
Animal header: 24 ” max length from header flange ( mount) to end of muffler or flare. Headers MUST be wrapped from 1” above flange to muffler or flare. ( safety issue)

Header must be “J” style pipe only and MUST stay within the frame rails, muffler if used must be secured per IKF engine rules, header that exit outside the frame rails will not be allowed to compete. Header / muffler may not extend behind the rear bumper
Gasoline only, 86-93 octane, no ethanol fuel or fuel additives allowed
AKRA BP Clone engine allowed in Jr.Wing class
Clone MUST use billet flywheel
Header must stay within frame rails ( same as Animal engine) and must be wrapped
CHAIN GUARDS:  Must have aluminum, steel or equivalent material chain guard by clutch and then extend chain guard with safe material to protect drivers arm. Must be secured properly to protect driver from broken chain.

 

125 Wings (2-cycle only)

Min Weight 375#*
Single cylinder, 2-stroke, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki or Suzuki, dirt bike engine
No big bore kits (135cc maximum cylinder displacement)
No lightweight cranks or stroker kits
Must have factory stock stroke and rod length as per manufacturer engine specifications for the year and model of your engine
Must have complete working clutch, no slipper clutches
After market pipes OK
After market reeds OK
Pump gas only (No Methanol)
No Nitrous Oxide
Must have factory, stock ignition for your engine (no after market adjustable ignitions)
Must have factory, stock rubber intake for your engine
Single fuel pump or safely mounted gravity fuel tank
 Single carburetor only, No Fuel injection or pump around system of any kind

-125, 250 and 500 Wing Kart classes will only be allowed to run one Radiator (std CR racing size and cap.) and standard 3/4" hose directly from engine to radiator, no extra cooling hoses, tanks, etc...!!!!

-No Rotary engines

 

250 Wings (2-cycle only)

Weight 430#
Single cylinder (gas only) .
 **Stock Stroke and rod length as per manufacturer year, model and engine specifications .
No after market big bore kits.
No after market stroker kits.
Maximum cylinder displacement: 265cc
After market pipes, heads, intakes and naturally aspirated carburetors allowed.

125, 250 and 500 Wing Kart classes will only be allowed to run one Radiator (std CR racing size and cap.) and standard 3/4" hose directly from engine to radiator, no extra cooling hoses, tanks, etc...!!!!

No Nitrous Oxide.

 

500 Wings

Weight 430#
Single cylinder (gas only)
550cc Max. Displacement (2 strokes)
600cc Max. Displacement (4 strokes only)
*4 strokes may use Factory fuel injection only if the motor came from the factory with fuel injection, no aftermarket fuel injection

CHASSIS SPECS:
Main frame must be similar in design and appearance with the addition of a roll cage.  Roll cage
must be constructed of mild steel tubing, chrome moly tubing, or material of equal or greater strength, must be of a design that protects the driver

in the event of an upset or mishap and pass stringent inspection by the officials.  Q.R.C or S.K.E SPECS Ok.

-ABSOLUTELY NO SUSPENSION IS ALLOWED ON ANY WINGED OUTLAW KARTS! SPRING MOUNTED ROLL CAGE ON RIGID KART CHASSIS ONLY!

-NO CHAMP (style) KARTS!

BALLAST:  All non-structural weights added to  meet minimum kart/driver weight requirements must be bolted securely to the kart.  Carrying of ballast
on the driver’s person is prohibited. Bolts of minimum 5/16” diameter must be utilized to secure weights, cotter-keyed or  double-nutted.  No weight shall

be bolted to the underside of the kart.  Where weight is attached directly to the seat of a kart, a large diameter, metal fender washer must be used for

reinforcement.  A maximum of 5 lbs. per bolt is allowed.  Any driver who loses weight on the track will be disqualified.  Ballast/ weights must be painted
white with kart number inscribed.  Tape, hose clamps, ty-wraps or fasteners other than bolts are not legal for attaching ballast weights to karts.

SILENCERS:  Must be bolted and secured in a safe manner or driver will not be allowed to race or DQ’d.
WING REQUIREMENTS: Top wing required.
Hightest point of top wing not to exceed 76" from ground.

 

125, 250 and 500 Wing: Top wing must be intermediate or open style wing . (Approx. 34-40" wide center section and 42-48" long

side panels)

Length and width dimensions will not vary 33%.   

Side panels must not obstruct driver’s vision

Nose wing optional.

Wing Sliders: Legal in all Winged Outlaw Classes, but not recommended in Jr. Wing

BRAKES: Rear Disc Brakes Mandatory, Left front brakes legal, but not recommended in Jr. Wing

BODY: Must be complete.  This includes hood, side panels, floor pan and tail.  May be built of aluminum, fiberglass or non-splintering plastic.  No sharp

edges!

TIRES & WHEELS: 5“ or 6“ rims. 

 

Quarter Midgets
Your quarter midget must be QMA or USAC legal to race at Cedar Lake Arena.  Almost all cars in the market today will meet one of these two rule packages.  See http://www.usacracing.com/quarter_midgets/garage_qm  for USAC rules or http://www.quartermidgets.org/documents/documents.asp for QMA rules.  At Cedar Lake Arena, we run the following classes:

Rookie Class:  Ages 5-8:  120cc with a blue restictor plate.  Car with driver must be at least 250 lbs.

120cc Light Weight Class:  Ages 9+:  120cc without a restrictor plate.  Car with driver must be at least 270 lbs.

120cc Heavy Weight Class:  Ages 9+:  120cc without a restrictor plate.  Car with driver must be at least 325 lbs.  Driver must weigh at least 100 lbs.

160cc Light Weight Class:   Ages 9+:  160cc engine.  Car with driver must be at least 270 lbs.  Driver must weigh under 100 lbs.

160cc Heavy Weight Class:  Ages 9+:  160cc engine.  Car with driver must be at least 325 lbs. Driver must weigh at least 100 lbs.

 World Formula Class:  Ages 9+:  World Formula Engine.  Car with driver must be at least 340 lbs.

 

Micro Sprint Cars
We race just two classes of micro sprints when they are on our schedule (winged and non-winged cars).
 
Rules for each of these divisions are below. Please call 612-363-0479 with any questions.
 
Open Winged Class
•         640cc MAX displacement. No Nitrous, turbo or superchargers permitted.
•         12 Years Minimum Age
•         Wings: 4x4max, max left sideboard 26” x 54”, right sideboard 24” x 54”.
•         Nose Wing: 4 Square Foot
•         D20 Right Rear or equivalent, Must durameter 15mn after race.
•         Loss of any bolt-on weight during competition will disqualify the individual from that event.
•         775lb. including the driver, at the conclusion of the race.
 
Open Non-Winged Class
•         640cc MAX No Nitrous, turbo or superchargers permitted.
•         12 Years Minimum Age
•         D20 or Harder Right Rear
•         Loss of any bolt-on weight during competition will disqualify the individual from that event.
•         775 lb. including the driver, at the conclusion of the race.
