With rainy weather plaguing the 10th edition of the Legendary 100, both the Thursday and Friday night programs fell victim to rain. Bright sunny skies prevailed on Saturday for what would be a marathon day at the legendary Cedar Lake Speedway. The full Friday night program started around noon and was followed in the evening by the regularly scheduled Saturday night show. In all, racers and fans who were there at the onset of racing action were part of a memorable day which featured a total of 50 races encompassing 661 laps of green flag racing action! The total car count for the 2015 edition of this popular event tallied 193, as four divisions scheduled for Thursday night were not able to race.

When the final checkered flag flew early on Sunday morning to conclude what likely was the longest day in CLS history, 2015 Legendary 100 championship feature wins went to Darrell Nelson in the late models, Craig Thatcher in the modifieds, Shane Sabraski in the pro stocks, and Jason Miller in the midwest modifieds. For Thatcher and Sabraski, it was the second year in a row they won the Legendary 100 in their divisions. Jason Miller and Darrell Nelson joined Shane Sabraski and Jimmy Mars as winners in more than one division. Miller won the modified title back in 2006 while Nelson had three previous modified wins in 2010, 2011 and 2013. Nelson now has the most Legendary 100 wins at four followed by Brady Smith and Sabraski with three each.

The make-up for the Friday night rain out started around noon on Saturday and provided race fans with 20 heat races, 7 B Mains, and 4 Qualifying Features. The 20 lap Qualifying Feature winners included A J Roschen in the midwest modifieds, Shane Sabraski in the pro stocks, Eric Pember in the modifieds and Ricky Weiss in the late models. The midwest mod feature ran nonstop with all 24 starters finishing. The pro stock feature also ran nonstop with 22 of the 23 starters running at the end.

The track was reworked following the conclusion of the Friday night makeup show, and at last the regular Saturday night program was underway. Prior to the four championship features, a total of 11 B Mains and 4 Last Chance Qualifiers were run to set the 24 car starting field for the "big dance" in the four divisions.

The first Legendary 100 feature on the track was the 30 lap midwest modified main event. The race saw three different leaders, as Roschen led the opening lap, Jake Smith led the next five laps, and then it was all Jason Miller from lap 7 through lap 30. The race was only slowed once under caution with 27 laps scored. Jeremy Nelson finished second with Jake Smith third, David Swearingen fourth and Tyler Kintner fifth. Cory Bruggeman, Jason Schill, Shane Sabraski, Roschen and Ryan Olson completed the top ten. Mark Thomas advanced the most positions racing from 19th to 11th.

The pro stocks then rolled trackside for their 30 lap Legendary 100 feature. Shane Sabraski was looking for his second straight Legendary 100 victory in the pro stock division, and from his pole starting spot he led the entire 30 lap distance. Three times the race was under caution, but Sabraski was too strong for any of his fellow competitors to mount a serious bid for the lead. Tristan Labarge turned in a strong run for the runner-up spot at the checkers followed by two-time winner (2010 & 2013) Ben Hillman, 2012 winner Scott Lawrence from the 13th starting spot, and Tommy Richards in the top five. Rounding out the top ten finishers was Mike Anderson, Dave Flynn, Jeff Brauer, Dexton Koch and 18th starter Steve Thomas. 2007 winner Dale Gangl came from 21st to 11th, as he advanced the most positions.

With six-time modified track champion Craig Thatcher starting on the front row outside of 1998 track champion Eric Pember, race fans were wondering if Thatcher would earn his second straight Legendary 100 victory. Well, 30 laps later Thatcher sat in Victory Lane having led the entire distance. Two cautions slowed the pace, but each time Thatcher handily drove away from the field. Pember ran second, although Matt Leer held that spot for several laps before he dropped out of the race. Three-time modified track champion Darrell Nelson came from 12th to finish third. Steve Wetzstein and 10th starter Jason Vandekamp completed the top five. Rounding out the top ten finishers was Ashley Anderson, advancing 16 positions from his 23rd starting spot Danny Bayer, Jeremy Nelson, Josh Angst and 17th starter Don Eischens.

The final race of the evening and final race of the season for the weekly racing divisions would see 24 high-powered, ground-pounding late models pitted against each other for their 40 lap feature. Darrell Nelson capped off a tremendous season at CLS with his first Legendary 100 victory in a late model, as the Hermantown, Minnesota driver led all 40 laps. The race was slowed on four occasions and was not without some controversy on the second caution. With 12 laps scored, second place runner Jimmy mars was attempting to lap Joel Collins exiting turn four. Mars got into Collins and spun him around. The call was on Mars, and after unsuccessfully pleading his case, he drove off the track rather than restarting at the tail of the field. Mars had been challenging Nelson for the lead prior to this incident. Although Ricky Weiss stayed fairly close, Nelson was never seriously challenged after lap 12. Weiss finished second ahead of Chad Mahder, A J Diemel and two-time Legendary 100 champion Pat Doar. Jake Redetzke rode home in sixth ahead of 14th starter John Kaanta. Jeff Massingill was eighth followed by Nick Anvelink and 19th starter Brent Larson in the top ten. Larson and Ben Hanke advanced the most positions (9) in the feature.

With the conclusion of the 10th Annual Legendary 100, Cedar Lake Speedway would like to thank all of the drivers, crew members, families, fans, sponsors and everybody who endured the rainy weather and the very long Saturday racing marathon program to bring the 2015 racing season in the weekly divisions to a close. The only remaining event for the 2015 outdoor racing season will be the 10th Annual Hornet Enduro next Saturday September 26 scheduled to pay $10,000 to the winner based on the number of entries.
