Jason Krohn Tops Mars For First Late Model Win At CLS
New Richmond, WI (8-5-16)

Superb weather, a very strong 37 car NASCAR late model field, and a full night of racing in front of a large Friday night crowd comprised the second night of the 29th Annual USA Nationals.  The NASCAR late model portion of the show was also a points race for the NASCAR Dash Series, as the scheduled third night was rained out on July 23rd.  Jason Krohn's open motor was not ready in time for him to enter the World of Outlaws late model portion of the USA Nationals, so he concentrated on the NASCAR part of the program.  At the end of a nonstop 30 lap feature race, Krohn held off Jimmy Mars to pick up his first-ever Cedar Lake Speedway win and the top prize of $2,500.

The NASCAR late models ran four heat races which were won by Mike Nutzmann, AJ Diemel, Ben Hanke and John Kaanta.  Hanke was disqualified following his heat race for an illegal tire which handed the win to Jimmy Mars.  Twin B Mains saw Tim Isenberg and Rick Hanestad the winners.  Mars was the top point earner in the passing and finishing point system used during the NASCAR Dash Series and would start the 30 lap main event from the pole with Krohn outside of him.  Krohn immediately grabbed the lead at the start and had to hold off several early challenges by Mars.  The laps clicked off quickly under the green, and the leaders began lapping cars running near the tail of the field on lap eight.  Mars stayed close, but at times Krohn would open up a several car length advantage and then see it shrink in traffic.  Mars closed in during the final couple of laps, but Krohn was up to the task and held him off for the victory.  Darrell Nelson, Jake Redetzke and current NASCAR Dash Series point leader AJ Diemel completed the top five.  Rounding out the top ten was Nick Anvelink, Steve Laursen, Nutzmann, Travis Budisalovich and Kaanta.  Twenty of the twenty four cars that started were still running a the end of 30 fast laps around the high-banked dirt oval.

Racing action concludes on Saturday night at the USA Nationals with another complete program of NASCAR late models along with the B Mains, Last Chance Qualifier and the big 100 lap USA Nationals feature for the WoO open late models paying $50,000 to win.  Racing is slated to get underway at 7:00pm on Saturday evening
