Jimmy Mars Cruises To 48th Career Late Model Win At CLS
New Richmond, WI (8-6-16)

Another fantastic summer evening with another talented field of 39 NASCAR late models closed out the third and final night of racing during the running of the 29th Annual USA Nationals in front of a huge crowd.  The NASCAR late model portion of the evening once again featured a complete program including four heats, two B Mains and the 30 lap feature event.  On Friday night Jimmy Mars trailed Jason Krohn the entire distance.  On Saturday night Mars turned the tables and cruised to his 48th career late model feature win at the Cedar Lake Speedway with Krohn trailing him most of the way.  Mars won $2,500 for his efforts prior to racing in the 100 lap USA Nationals feature in the World of Outlaws late model portion of the event.

Following NASCAR late model heat race wins by Rob Odegard, Jake Redetzke, Jason Krohn and Pat Doar, John Kaanta and Jesse Glenz topped the two B Mains to set the stage for the 24 car starting grid.  Throughout 64 laps of racing in the heats and B Mains, the  caution flag never waved.  The 30 lap feature would only see one yellow displayed.  Mars earned the pole position with the top score in passing and finishing points from the heat races.

Mars left no doubt who would be the dominant car and driver on this night, as he drove to the lead at the drop of the green flag and 30 laps later had a comfortable margin of victory.  The race was slowed under caution with eight laps scored for a Ben Hanke spin in turn two.  Mars once again pulled away on the restart with Krohn moving to second.  Around lap 20, the leaders encountered a group of three cars racing near the back of the field.  This gave Krohn an opportunity to close in on Mars.  As he usually does, Mars mastered the lapped traffic and re-established his comfortable distance between himself and Krohn.  Finishing behind Mars and Krohn was current track point leader AJ Diemel.  Jake Redetzke and Darrell Nelson completed the top five.  Rounding out the top ten finishers were Nick Anvelink, Pat Doar, Mike Prochnow, Tim Isenberg and Mike Nutzmann.

Racing action continues during the next three Saturday nights in August at the Cedar Lake Speedway with NASCAR Dash Series point nights in the four NASCAR divisions.  The late models, modifieds, pro stocks and Midwest modifieds will be in action each night, as the battle for the $60,000 point fund for the NASCAR Dash Series track championships heat up.  The month of September will feature the 16th Annual Richert Memorial on Saturday September 10 with the NSL and IRA 410 Outlaw sprint cars, the UMSS winged sprints and the UMSS Traditional sprints in action for a three division sprint car racing program.  Then the 11th Annual Legendary 100 comprises three full nights of racing on September 15-17 before the 10th Annual $10,000-to-win Enduro concludes the racing season on September 24.
